A dietary supplement, also known as food supplement or nutritional supplement, is a preparation intended to supplement the diet and provide nutrients, such as vitamins, minerals, fiber, fatty acids, or amino acids that may be missing or may not be consumed in sufficient quantities in a person's diet. Some countries define dietary supplements as foods, while in others they are defined as drugs or natural health products. Although dietary supplements in the form of tablets, capsules or powder are available, they are not drugs, but foods that are intended to supplement the daily diet.
State institutions have already confirmed that over 80% of the population lack important nutrient in spite of a balanced diet: a healthy diet alone is not sufficient to guarantee total nutrient demand of the body. There are situations and circumstances where the body requires a greater need for nutrients. These situations include stress, illness, low resistance and others which interfere with the body and call for nutrient supplements. .
